The long version
A young Indian woman last night was asked about her story and she responded with the question: Do you want the long or short version? I asked for the long version and it was a beautiful story that maybe went for 4 minutes. It was more a statement about our culture's poverty of narrative aesthetic. I dream of the day when the long version goes a while, as my glass craftsman guru and friend John Nickerson practices with his stories that last at least an hour.
