One more piece on the Obama reaction. All leadership is mythic. People see in leaders what they want to see and the more inspiring the leader, the more inspiration evokes people's capacity for hope. Every election on the planet is at least as much about the choosers as much as it is about the chosen.
The most effective leaders engage people in action that aligns with and realizes their hope. They understand that hope like anger can bring people to the table, and once they're there, they need to participate in co-creating the change they want to see. People want to hope but not to wait because waiting is the domain of victims. People want hope as an invitation to action because action is the domain of the empowered.
